The Story Behind Monita Tequila

Monita Tequila is named after Serita's late mother who left a lasting impression on everyone she met and went out of her way to make them feel special no matter if they were family, customers, coworkers, or strangers.

Monita never liked the taste of alcohol, that is, until her daughter introduced her to margaritas. It became a tradition for the two of them to catch up over rounds of the tequila based cocktails. No matter what stress the day had brought, they would walk away with smiles on their faces.

In the spirit of her mom's legacy of creating small, unifying, and meaningful moments and inspired by Serita’s passion for high-quality and affordable tequila this brand will serve as the centerpiece of great cocktails and lasting memories.

Out of over 1,400 domestic brands and international producers of tequila, there are only two Black female owners. (Consejo Regulador del Tequila, 2013) We believe that more Black women should be reflected in the ownership of the tequila brands we can choose from. Monita Tequila aims to increase representation in the spirits industry while honoring the woman it's named after and the land from where tequila originates.
